Jim Taylor #135, the unofficial “Sheriff” of the Resort, suffered a heart attack Friday, October 22. He was on his recumbent bicycle in Phase I when he suddenly lost consciousness and fell over. Karen Walyk #174 was his guardian angle – she was riding her bike nearby at the time and started performing CPR immediately. Julian Upchurch #45 and Hal Barns #19 called 911. The ambulance arrived shortly and transported him to Hilton Head Hospital. After a rough first night, Jim has improved steadily and is having procedures preformed to hopefully alleviate this happening again. Jim has been in our thoughts and prayers and hopefully will be back with us soon riding his usual route through the Resort – in the meantime, he appointed Hal Barns his Deputy Sheriff! Everyone was invited to a BYOB the evening of Saturday, October 23, by Jeff and Mary Titus #255 who hosted the gathering around the pool and provided live entertainment. The food was great and so was the singer – some of us even participated in a “sing along!” Last week, we at Hilton Head Motorcoach Resort played host to the Newell Rally with 38 coaches participating. There were 6 “show” coaches that everyone was invited to tour and “ooh and aah” over. Thanks to Nancy Noggle for all her organizational skill for pulling this off. Now we have a “big” one under our belts and more to come! More owners are arriving daily and hopefully staying for the Semi-Annual meeting and our 25th Anniversary gathering. Hope lots of you can come! Keep those cards and e-mails coming naming our phases! We have some
great entries, but always welcome more! Send them via e-mail to: jimnancyscott@aol.com and thanks! Owners are arriving daily and seeing the results of all the work accomplished over the summer (and still going on)! Glad to see everyone and hope to see more at the Semi-Annual Meeting on November 13. The power/pedestal project is winding down for this year with one site remaining after today. We have so much to be thankful for – and despite some inconvenience, the loss of a few bushes, and the delays due to the hurricanes in Florida, this will be a vast improvement of our power system for the Resort. Let’s not forget how much this could have cost us if Palmetto Electric had not born the enormous financial burden of this. Again, we have wonderful volunteers to thank for a lot of hard work. Remember them, owners, for had they not done work for US, then WE would have had to pay someone to do it! Thanks go out to: Pat Miller and Jim Bales for working on refurbishing the pedestals; and Jack Scott, Dick Noggle, and Jim Scott for getting the pool and spa heaters working. Keep those names coming! We have received lots of ideal for names for the phases, but always want more ideas from you, so let Nancy Scott know what they are. You can reach her via e-mail at jimnancyscott@aol.com. The town of Hilton Head Island is making a priority of additional bike paths on Arrow Road. All of us certainly will appreciate the convenience and safety of a path along our busy street! |
